no heat
I have a 91 Silverado C1500 5.7L The thermostat and water pump are new, and the radiator is not blocked up. With the radiator inlet hose disconnected and the engine running and hot, (thermostat open), water just dribbles out of the hose. Any suggestions?

Make sure there are no air pockets. Burp/bleed the cooling system. Also try a foward and reverse flush flush of the heater core. You also gotta make sure that the thermostat is not hangin open or partly open.

As Big Block stated, you might want to try and bleed the system. Your particular engine usually bleeds out pretty easy, without any special tricks. One thing you can try is taking the thermostat out (test purposes only) and running the vehicle with the upper hose off of the radiator (like you mentioned). Check to see if the system flows good then. If it does, you know your problem is an air pocket or the thermostat. I know that you said the thermostat is new but new doesn't mean good. You can check the thermostat by submerging it in a pot of water and bringing the water to a boil. Make sure the thermostat closes when cold and opens when hot (at the specified temp). Remember, that it is temperature and not pressure, that opens the thermostat.
Last but not least, you can add coolant while the thermostat is out and then install the thermostat making sure that it is not in upside down (no offense). You can even try using a couple of asprin (YEAH I SAID THAT) to hold the thermostat open while you fill the system. You'll have to work fast since the asprin will start to dissolve. It's an old shade tree trick but it works.

I'm curious how you checked the thermostat. Checking it on the truck might not work if you have an air pocket. Did you use the boiling water test? Furthermore, did you pull the thermostat to see if you have good flow then? Also, when you pulled off the hose and saw the water dribble out, did you have a hose feeding the radiator? If the system is not being fed, you can not expect it to have any output. Please make sure we're not chasing our tails here. Use a water hose to feed the radiator when you are checking for flow from the upper hose.
If the system won't flow, you need to figure out why. If it will flow, you need to check the heater core. Make sure the inlet and outlet hoses are both hot. Don't forget the flush that Big Block mentioned.
As far as bleeding the system is concerned, you already have that info. Read my last post again. As I stated before, your system should bleed out pretty easy but if not, try the tricks I gave you.
Does this truck overheat or is the only problem a lack of heater function?
Did this problem occur before or only after the parts were replaced?

I checked the thermostat in
I checked the thermostat in boiling water on the stove. I didn't check for flow with the thermostat out, though. With the radiator out of the system to check for blockage, I fed water from a hose to the water pump with the motor running. This is when I got the dribble. Tomorrow I will try it with the thermostat out. Also, the problem started before I changed out the parts. Thanks again.

You can't check it this way. You got a dribble because the is no pressure building. You gotta have the radiator in the system. Do what's below and post the results.
Put the radiator back into the system and anything else you took apart.
Buy a "Prestone Flush and Fill Kit" from a parts store, and install and use the kit according to the enclosed instructions, and post the results.
