on a 1978 dodge diplomat 2 door with a 5.2 how do you change the rear wheel bearings

A 78 they should be tapered

A 78 they should be tapered bearings remove the cap carefully as not damage it so it can be reused during reassembly, clean the grease off the components found under the cap, remove the cotter pin, nut,and washer, then the outer bearing(there are 2 bearings inner and outer) should come out inspect the bearings, look for any flattened, blue, or pitted rollers or damage to the housing if any of these defects replace bearings and race. The races come with the bearings and they seat in the hub of the drum. with drum still on the spindle and the front bearing out of the hub place the nut only, back on the spindle 8 or 9 threads and yank the drum over the nut to remove inner bearing and seal, place the drum face down on a flat solid surface using a hammer and a punch gently tap the back side of the front race in several different spots until it falls out. Turn the drum over and repeat to remove the race for the inner bearing. To install races rent or borrow a race and seal installer from auto zone they rent tools. If the race gets damaged during installation your new bearing is likely to fail. Once the races are installed, smear a generous amount of grease in the hub and spindle shaft on the car, pack the new bearings using a bearing packer until grease passes all the way through the bearing, place the inner bearing in the hub and install new seal, install drum on spindle, bearing, washer and nut. Tighten the nut using a pair of channel lock pliers until it feels snug and spin the drum, tighten the center nut until it feels snug again and spin the drum again and repeat this a few times until it feels and rolls good then give it a 1/4 turn and install your cotter pin using a new one and install the cap this not a hard job any diy could do it
