i have a 1984 olds delta 88 i need to know how to replacment of rear main oil seal on 307ci olds engine

let me know if this helped.

let me know if this helped. mws919

Remove distributor cap and align rotor with No. 1 firing position.
Disconnect ground cable, remove dip stick and drain oil pan.
Remove upper radiator support and fan shroud attaching screws.
Remove flywheel cover and starter.
Disconnect exhaust pipes and crossover pipe on single exhaust models.
Disconnect engine mounts and raise engine.
Remove oil pan bolts and oil pan.

Since the braided fabric seal used on these engines can be replaced only when the crankshaft is removed, the following repair procedure is recommended.

Remove oil pan and bearing cap.
Drive end of old seal gently into groove, using a suitable tool, until packed tight. This may vary between 1/4 and 3/4 inch depending on amount of pack required.
Repeat previous step for other end of seal.
Measure and note amount that seal was driven up on one side. Using the old seal removed from bearing cap, cut a length of seal the amount previously noted plus 1/16 inch.
Repeat previous step for other side of seal.
Pack cut lengths of seal into appropriate side of seal groove. A packing tool, BT-6433, Fig. 18, may be used since the tool has been machined to provide a built-in stop. Use tool BT-6436 to trim the seal flush with block, Fig. 19.
Install new seal in lower bearing cap.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque oil pan bolts to 10 ft. lbs.
