starter circut problems

My 2005 Cadillac STS has intermentent problems with the starting system. The car has a push button switch to start the car.Ocassionally the starter will click like there is a bad connection and the stsrter will not activate. When this happens I can move the shifter from park to drive and then back to park while simaltaneously pushing the start button until the engine cranks.Sometimes the car will crank right up,sometimes it takes several trys to get the starter to activate.it seems to me that it is the neutral safety switch or whatever the equivelant of the neutral safety switch is on this car.My question is;where is the neutral safety switch on this car and how do i diagnose this problem before I buy any parts?I have hooked up my Genesis scaner to the car and did not have any trouble codes.

Spring, You gotta

Spring,

You gotta troubleshoot the basics first that relate to the starting and charging systems before you buy or replace any parts. Do start throwin parts at this problem in the hopes of fixin it. All you're gonna be doin is wastin your time and money. Post back if you don't know what the basics are, or if you need help with them.
