the fan switch has stopped working in my 2000 jeep cherokee. heat works, just can't adjust fan

Sounds like you might have a bad blower motor or blower motor resistor.
If the fan runs on high only you probably have a problem with the resistor.
If it won't blow at all let's test the blower motor.

1. Gain access to the control head. This system is ground side controlled. Using a jumper wire, ground each wire for the blower motor speeds. When grounding the Light Blue wire, should have number three speed. When grounding the Light Green wire, should have number two speed. When grounding the Tan wire, should have low speed. If each speed can be obtained, the control head is at fault. If each speed cannot be obtained, the resistor or its wiring is at fault.
