John, LIKELY TO BE MOUNTED TO
John,
LIKELY TO BE MOUNTED TO A "Heat Sink".
Check at the right front passenger side strut tower. There was a “Class Action” law suit against Ford that resulted in a (HUGE) recall. You should really check with a dealer to see if your vehicle qualifies for the recall.
Tell us in (DETAIL) what problem you are having, and (WHY) you think the “TFI” module is to (BLAME) for it?
It is a great running
It is a great running pickup...bought it new in '85. Lately it will just not start sporadically. I can walk away and five minutes later it will start and run fine. I put my timing light on it during one of these episodes...no spark. Ten minutes later it started and ran fine the rest of the day. I changed the ignition switch...no help. Did some reading online, and this sounds like the problem.

John, Just a couple of
John,
Just a couple of questions first buddy. :-)
Did you find the "TFI"?
If you did find it, (WHERE) in the engine compartment was it?
Was it (CONNECTED) to a "Heat Sink"?
YOUR QUOTE APPEARS BELOW.
(QUOTE) Lately it will just not start sporadically. I can walk away and five minutes later it will start and run fine.
TRY THE TEST BELOW AND POST THE RESULTS.
Put a test light across both small wires at the coil. Have a helper crank the engine, while you watch the test light for pulses. If pulses are present the TFI is working and the coil should be firing. If there is still no spark (LEAVING) the coil, then you can (RULE IN) a bad coil.
i've seen them on the drivers
i've seen them on the drivers side fender by computer.
have you scanned it for any codes?
Grunt, (MOST) times codes
Grunt,
(MOST) times codes mean (NOTHING). We're talking "TFI" here. Just (ABOUT) "Motorcrafts" (Worst) nightmare.

I. Well that one I'll leave up to you buddy :-) :-)
I called the dealership and
I called the dealership and inquired about the recall. My VIN number did not match up to the recall. Long story short...after much discussion the service manager told me to look for a "Duraspark" ignition box on the left front fender. he used to own a pickup with that type of system and had problems similar to mine. Turns out my model has no TFI module. I will pick up a new Duraspark box tomorrow.
Thanks for all your help.
that's kinda what i thought,
that's kinda what i thought, do you know they are colored coded, you'll need that color to order another one.
Good to know, thanks. I will
Good to know, thanks. I will take the old one with me.

that a good idea, alldata says dealer price around $140.00.
let us know how you make out.

Haven't seen a response from
Haven't seen a response from you since May 18th. Tomorrow is the last day of the month. Hope I'm not too late, but don't install duraspark back in the original "OE" location. You gotta keep the duraspark cool. The best place to reinstall it is behind the right headlight. Don't go behind the left light. There's more open space behind the right light, and that open space will circulate air better and keep the duraspark cooler. Another thing you can do to help keep it cool is to coat the base of it with dielectric grease.
After reading his posts,
After reading his posts, sound like he got it going just fine. 9assuming he picked up the duraspark box.
