What do you think is making the clicking sound that appears to be comming from the right rear wheel while breaking in my 2003 Toyota Seinna ? The sound slows as the sar slows to a stop

Sambo, You have created two

Sambo,

You have created two threads for the same problem. This can cause confusion and delay your repair. I will drag the info I have posted on your previous thread to this one. If I was you I would pick one and stick with it.

The rear brakes on your van are drum brakes. Checking the brake shoes is of course the best place to start. You will also want to check and see if the brake drums are out of round and see if there is lube between the shoes and the backing plate at the contact points. If the drums are out of round and the contact points are dry it can cause a clicking noise.

Also check all brake hardware (springs hold downs etc.).

Be careful when you go to remove the drums. This setup is known to be a little stubborn. Use some penetrating oil around the hub and studs. Carefully utilize the threaded holes in the drum with an appropriate set of bolts (I believe they are 8x1.25 maybe 8x1.5 off the top of my head). Alternate back and forth from bolt to bolt when installing them. Prior to installation of the bolts you might want to give the drum a little love with a hammer to try and break the rust loose. DON'T HIT IT ON THE BELL OF THE DRUM! Just a little love near the center. Make sure you don't hit the studs:) You may also need to adjust the shoes in. These links may help:

Sambo,

In addition to what's been posted, it's now time to get the rear wheel bearings checked as well. Better to be safe and sure rather than sorry. Was the rear of the van involved in the accident your mother in-law had? If it was, again you gotta check with your insurance company to see if the repair is guaranteed. As stated pick one post and stick with it. The double posting you created for this problem is gonna lead to confusion and delay your repair.

Sambo, I have to agree.

Sambo,

I have to agree. Checking the wheel bearings is a good idea.

Big Block,

I know it's early and the bulldog is wearing of but did you have to throw the MIL under the bus? Cold as hell my brother. Gotta consider the Dr. It makes for a kinder gentler Big Block:)

What do you mean by throwing the MIL under the bus? Also no bulldog or Bombay yesterday man. Nothing goes better with a hurricane than Becks :-)

Big Block,

Sambo also owns a Honda Odyssey. I don't think his MIL has wrecked the Toyota:) Glad you weathered the storm:)

Don't get what the big deal was? So we got some rain and some wind. In Nam it would rain for 9 months straight. :-(
