what repair is needed for a 2001 chevy S10 4cylinder, automatic, that has no forward gears, only reverse. and is there another GM car that uses that same transmission?

sounds like the foward clutch is burnt. is the fluid very dark and will it move in low/1st gear? if not it's the foward clutch and transmission will have to be removed and repaired.

check prices at wrecking yard - either way, rebuild that one or exchange it for another - see which way is cheaper.
