I have 2000 dodge stratus 2.5. my car wants to start but wont turn over, the battery is ok, and the starter, the distributer, the sparks, are all ok. i have a full tank of gas. my question is where is the fuel shut off switch?. im headed out now to check

by wants to start it is

by wants to start it is turning over / spinning but won't fire / run? start by checking fuel pressure. go to autozone.co - register - add vehicle and go to repair section for step by step testing of engine problems.

If the engine will not turn

If the engine will not turn over (meaning the engine does not spin over), the fuel pump is not the problem.

Try tapping on the starter as a partner hold the keys in the "start" position. If the brushes or aramature in the starter is going bad, sometimes will make it start (temporarily).

You can also try shorting the starter between the battery cable(where it connects to the starter solenoid) and the small wire going to the solenoid (its' the "S" terminal). Use a screwdriver to make a connection between these two terminals. The starter should operate, causing the engine to spin over. If it does, yet will not spin over with the key, the starter needs replacing. Once the starter is removed, have it checked (for free) at autozone, before buying the new one.
