i have a 1990 volvo 240DL that i would like to convert the 4 speed manual transmission to an automatic. How feasible is this?

depends on a lot of

depends on a lot of circumstances:

You'll need an automatic transmission,
the shift selector, wiring and related fuses,
you'll need to eliminate the the clutch safety switch and install a neutral safety switch.
change the console dispaly so that it display which gear you're in.
Most likely change the transmission cross-member and mount. (check drive shaft length to be sure it will fit--have machine shop to fix if necessary)
Install shift cable and shifter with shift lock-out feature.
change flywheel and maybe starter as well.

But if you are lucky and industrious you might be able to find this on a car and simply remove from one car and install on the other.

It'll be a lot of work. probably worth it though.

anything is possible but i

anything is possible but i would even start with out a doner vehicle
